Administrative Systems (Computer Services)

Description

Access to administrative College data is controlled through the access rights granted within the College ERP –  Banner.  The system provides two web-based interfaces to data with the system:

1) a self-service module (SSB), and

2) a more detailed, fully functional interface (INB) intended primarily for more comprehensive, administrative use of the system.

 Regardless of the interface used to access Banner, individual rights are granted within four broad areas:

  • Human Resource Module
  • Finance Module
  • Student Module
  • General Access

Who is it For 

All users of the College administrative system will have default access rights to data specific to their relationship with the College: In particular, using SSB:

  • Employees have access to their payroll and other HR information.
  • Budget holders have access to the details of their budgets and expenditures.
  • Faculty have access to data for those students registered in the classes they teach.
  • Students have access to their grades, schedules, and finances.
  • Everyone has access to their personal data (address, telephone, etc.)

In addition to default rights, Department managers can assign additional rights to INB users of Banner. These rights are primarily grouped in security classes – sets of INB functional screens that are required to complete related work at the College. Ex. Security class to create a position, create a purchase order, accept a student into a program, etc.

 Individual access rights to Banner data are granted within three broad areas.  Access is granted by the Banner module administrator – the College manager who has the responsibility of approving access rights to security classes within the module:

  • Human Resource Module – Director of Human Resources
  • Finance Module – Director of Finance
  • Student Module – Director of Student Success/Registrar

How do I use it

Banner SSB and INB can both be accessed through the College My Campus Portal (portal.confederationcollege.ca), or by using the URL of the service directly (banner-ssb.confederationcollege.ca or banner-inb.confederationcollege.ca).  ???

Banner SSB is a web application with simple functionality requiring little training.

Banner INB requires specialized user training.  Contact the module administrator for specific training.

Banner data can also be accessed through a number of other interfaces described elsewhere: Millennium (linked from inside the MyCampus Portal), Cognos reports, CampusNexus
