Videoconferencing Technology & Services (IT)
Service Description
Videoconference technology allows two or more remote sites/locations to communicate with full video, audio, and content (i.e. presentation media). Confederation College widely uses videoconferencing technology to connect with its seven regional campuses, as well as other videoconference enabled satellite sites – both for academic course delivery, as well as for administrative purposes. The College has over 30 videoconference enabled rooms, or mobile videoconference cart units located throughout its main campus, as well as at its regional campuses.
Confederation College also has a video bridge device that supports the seamless connecting of multiple videoconference endpoints within one or more videoconference sessions (including simultaneous videoconference sessions).
All videoconference rooms/mobile units, as well as the video bridge used at the College are purchased, installed, and supported through the Computer Services Help Desk.
Who Can Use This Service
All College employees and students may use videoconference technology services at the College.
Access and Availability
All videoconference rooms/mobile units and videoconference request session bookings must be scheduled prior to the actual event time.
Academic classes that require the use of videoconference technology must be scheduled through their academic school, and in turn, with the College’s central Scheduling Office. These class bookings are typically made months in advance of the start of a given semester, or term during the school year.
Ad-hoc videoconference bookings for meetings, etc. are to be made through the Computer Services Help Desk by calling 475-6488 (ext. 6488), or by e-mail at [email protected]. For all ad-hoc videoconference bookings, at least one weeks notice is required for routine bookings (less than 4 remote site connections – all of which are internal to the College). For large videoconference session bookings (i.e. more than 4 sites and/or connections required to non-College external locations), a minimum of 2 weeks notice is required in order to properly prepare the booking request. Ad-hoc videoconference booking requests that are scheduled off normal business hours of the Help Desk must be approved by the Manager, IT Customer Services prior to the booking being processed.
