What is it?

A unique college- delivered dual credit program offered at Confederation College to high school students from the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and the Lakehead Public School Board. This Dual Credit program supports secondary school students in completing high school and considering postsecondary education. The College Now program provides opportunities to explore career aspirations and helps to support a successful transition to college.

Earn 2x credits – get one college credit AND one high school credit from each successful College Now course

Confederation College’s College Now program is a unique opportunity for high school students to take college courses earlier. This “dual credit” program allows you to earn one college credit and one high school credit for each class you complete successfully. Plus, the program gives you more course options ... during your last year of high school.

Since you’ll be taking real college courses with other college students, it’s a great way to get a taste of what it’s like to go to college without risk or cost.

You’ll also get:

  • Transportation to and from Confederation College and your high school
  • Access to the College Wellness Centre and other student services for the semester
  • Access to all college library, computer, and e-mail services

 All tuition and student fees are included in the program, so it’s like getting college credits and education for free.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the College Now program, you must be:

  • Senior student with potential to graduate within one year already having 22 or more credits
  • Working toward on Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • Parental consent if under 18 years of age
  • Recommended by school staff and approved by the school principal
  • Registered in a minimum of one high school credit at home school

FAQs

Does this program cost anything?

There is no cost to the student or high school for the College Now program. All tuition, student fees, and transportation costs to and from the student’s high school are covered through the program.

If I take these courses, do I have to go to Confederation College after high school graduation?

Students still have all options available for post-secondary education – the College Now program does not “lock” the student into any specific path. The great thing though is that students who do go on to Confederation College may have already earned college credits towards their program.

What type of students should enroll in College Now?

The College Now program is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements. Students who are planning to go or are considering going to college after high school will benefit most from the College Now program.

How many College Now courses can I take?

You may take two courses in one semester and a maximum of four dual credits overall.

For Parents, Teachers, and Counsellors

The College Now program is a Ministry of Education-supported program designed to help students graduate from high school and experience college. Students who have identified a field of interest or career path that requires a college education to reach their goals will get the most from the College Now program. It’s a great tool to help keep students engaged and in turn help them be more successful in high school, too. Evidence has shown that success in dual credit programs is a good indicator of graduation success.
