Technical Requirements - Online Learning
Internet
You will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection. High speed broadband access (LAN, Cable or DSL) is highly recommended. Some courses have more advanced system requirements.
Computer
Please ensure you have a personal computer (PC) available for your OntarioLearn courses. While mobile devices may allow some participation in the course, they are not guaranteed to meet all your coursework needs. Apple or Macintosh (Mac) computers are not supported in several courses that require software (for example, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks). Any specific computer requirements are listed in course descriptions found in the shopping cart.
Internet Browser
An internet browser, such as Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome—is required. Note, it may be necessary to upgrade your web browser.
If you have a personal computer (PC), compatible operating systems include Windows 10 and II. Web browsers supported on a PC include the latest versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.
If you have a Macintosh computer (Mac), compatible operating systems include Monterey, Ventura and Sonoma. Web browsers supported on a Mac include Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
Software
Most courses require word-processing software. Individual courses may have additional software requirements such as programs for playing audio or video, or a specific software application. In some instances, it may be necessary to upgrade your version of Java to meet course requirements. Any specific computer software requirements for courses can be found in the course description in the course catalogue.
Other Devices
Depending on the Learning Management System used for your course, you may have access to some of the course elements though tablets and smartphones. We recommend students do not attempt quizzes when using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, due to compatibility issues.
You will have access to your own Confederation College email address upon registering for an OL course. Students must use their Confederation College email to access OntarioLearn courses on the start date. The Confederation College email address will be connected to your OntarioLearn courses so that course facilitator emails will be sent to your Confederation College email. Your Confederation College email is how our staff will contact you with important information and updates.
