Indigenous Self-Identification

At Confederation College we encourage our Indigenous learners to identify as Indigenous through our Self Identification process.  This process is Aboriginal People as per section 35(2) of the Canadian Constitution, meaning First Nations status and non-status. Métis and Inuit Peoples in Canada.

We recognize that Indigenous is a Global term.  For the purpose of our current Self-Identification process, we ask those Indigenous to Canada, First Nations (status and non-status), Metis, and Inuit to participate.

We recognize due to the impacts of colonization many students are now connecting to their culture and communities and beginning the process of rediscovery as part of their educational journey. We encourage those reconnecting, who may not be able to attest to their Indigeneity to self-identify and we invite you to participate in our support services, programming and events.
