Program Development - Process
Ontario College Credential New Program Development Process
Preamble:
Confederation College program development supports the six criteria defining exemplary college program quality assurance processes—as outlined in the Program Quality Assurance Process Audit (PQAPA) Orientation Manual; the Confederation College Mission and Strategic Plan; evidence-based practices and professional practice in teaching and learning; and Confederation College program review and development goals that promote continuous quality improvement in student learning.
Rationale for new program development:
There is a demonstrated sustainable demand for
- new programs that are not offered at other Ontario colleges
- a program that is not currently offered at Confederation College, but is on the MTCU list of Approved Postsecondary (APS) programs
- a major change in an existing program’s focus that requires, for example, Modified Program development
New Program Development: a three stage process that begins with the conceptualization and feasibility of a new program; followed by initial program development that leads to credential validation and funding approval (if required)*; and culminates with final the program development, program launch and student recruitment.
* Notes:
- Academic Council validation precedes BoG, CVS and MTCU approvals
- BoG approval and CVS validation may occur in either order
- The application for MTCU funding (if required) is made after these steps have been completed
