Personal Security (SAFE Campus)
If You are Believe that You Are Being Followed:
- Walk directly and quickly to an open office or building, or to an area with other people.
- If the person gives you a bad feeling, tell them to leave you alone - keep walking away.
- Call Campus Security at 922.
- Document and report the incident:
- employees report to their supervisors or managers
- students report through the Student Success Centre; students in Residence report through the Residence Manager for incidents occuring at Residence
If Someone is Loitering Near your Vehicle:
- Avoid them. Walk directly and quickly to a safe place: an open office or building, or an area with other people.

If Someone Grabs your Purse, or Other Belongings:
- Do not resist.
- Run in the opposite direction, yelling “HELP” or “THIEF”.
- From the nearest safe place, call 922.
- Document and report the incident:

If You are Robbed:
- Remain calm.
- Handle the entire procedure as if you were making a sale to a customer.
- Keep the transaction short and smooth.
- Listen carefully to what the robber says, and obey him or her.
- Ask the robber for clarification if needed.
- Speak only in response to the robber. DO NOT volunteer any information.
- If you must reach for something or move in any way, ask the robber for permission to do so.
- Immediately after the robber has left, lock the door, or move to a safe place where you can lock the door.
- Call Campus Security at 922 and request immediate and urgent assistance.

If you are attacked:
- Make a scene: yell as loudly as you can. Try shouting words like: “STOP”, or “HELP”. Scream. Be noisy.
- If you are being pulled along or dragged, fall to the ground and roll.
- If you have a whistle or a personal alarm, use it.
- If there are bystanders, give them specific instructions to help you. Single someone out and send them for help (eg. “You in the yellow shirt, call Security.”).
- From the nearest safe place, call 922 and request immediate and urgent assistance.
