The Organization

The Student Union of Confederation College Inc. (SUCCI) is the student government body that represents and serves Confederation College Students in Thunder Bay, Ontario. As a student-focused organization, it is committed to advocacy, entertainment, well-being, employment, education, and student-friendly services to enhance the overall college experience.

SUCCI provides a wide variety of student services and is comprised of a dedicated dynamic, collaborative team of student leaders and staff, which is committed to meeting the needs and expectations of students attending Confederation College while enhancing the overall student experience.

The Role

The Events Programmer is responsible for the delivery of programming which includes, social, wellness and special events to enhance the student life experience.

A primary goal of this position will be to educate & raise awareness and acceptance of wellness and diversity at the college through the planning, organizing, marketing and delivery of programming events and activities to students on a wide range of topics.

Key Duties

1. Organize, plan, and prepare for wellness & social events including booking facilities, resources, speakers, external organizations, and internal departments. Responsible for the preparation of events and activities for Confederation College Students in person and online to provide a wide range of student life opportunities, social events, and wellness activities.

2. Forecast revenues and expenses for programming events and prepare a function report following the completion of each event.

3. Shall negotiate and sign contracts for guest speakers, food services, transportation, entertainers, and music. Maintain records for reporting to the college for SOCAN and copy-write requirements as requested.

4. Coordinate SUCCI's Healthy Nutrition Program in accordance with the approved budget.

5. Liaise with the Administrator, Marketing and Communications to ensure the promotion & marketing of upcoming special events and activities hosted by SUCCI.

6. Co-Facilitate the SUCCI Events Team along with the Administrator, Communications & Marketing and Administrator of Athletics and Recreation. This is a team of hired student employees who assist with marketing & delivery of our programming to the student body. Duties will include scheduling, hiring, and supervising.

7. Facilitate and coordinate the Programming Committee for SUCCI along with other members of the Programming Committee. The Programming Committee meets bi-weekly during the academic school year. This committee will provide feedback and suggestions and direction for programming and events.

8. Responsible for coordinating operations of the Student Food Emergency Food Bank at Confederation College.

9. Assist with the annual "Stock the Bank" Fundraiser for the Student Emergency Fund and Emergency Food Bank at Confederation College.

10. Prepare reports as requested to effectively evaluate events.

11. Coordinate, assist and generate interest for Clubs on campus. Shall mentor General Interest Clubs on behalf of SUCCI.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a 2 Year Diploma in Event Management, Public Relations, Human Services, Recreation or similar.
  • 2 years’ experience is preferred. A general interest, passion, and knowledge of current trends in wellness are essential along with experience in planning and organizing special events from an idea to completion.
  • The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license with access to a vehicle preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $49,558.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
  • Occasional evening and weekend work as required

This is a full-time salary position with occasional evening and weekend work. An excellent extended health plan and CAAT Pension Plan will be provided upon successful completion of a one-year contract by the incumbent
