Ministry Exemption Exam Checklist (Testing Centre)

 

Candidate must be over 18 years old, or be at least 16 years old with with parent’s signature.

 

Candidates can call the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development or their Apprenticeship Representative for more information, or to ensure they are choosing to write the correct exam.

 

Registered Apprentice?  Yes or No

  • If No, candidate must have Grade 12 in order to register as an Apprentice.
  • If No, candidate should contact the Ontario College of Trades – Ontario College of Trades.ca, or call 1-855-299-0028 for more information.
 

If you are not a registered apprentice, the results will be good for 2 years; if you haven’t registered as an apprentice by then, you will have to rewrite the test.

 

The fee is $150.00; except for Mobile Crane Operator and Asbestos Worker/Supervisor which is $75.00

 

You must bring Photo ID – Driver’s Licence in order to write. (We also accept Passport, Status Card; Citizenship Card – Health Cards are not accepted.)

 

Most exemption exams include 100 multiple choice questions.

 

You will have 3 hours to complete the exam.

 

The passing mark is 70%.

 

You cannot bring anything into the testing room.  All required materials will be provided by the Testing Centre staff, including pencils and paper.

 

The results of your exam will be mailed to you within a couple of days.

 

The results of the exam will also be sent to the Ministry.

 

We cannot release results to anyone else, including your employer without your written permission (via a Consent to Release form).

 

If you fail the exam, you can rewrite the exam after 3 months.

 

You must provide written proof of upgrading before rewriting a failed exam (e.g., letter from an employer).

 

We do not provide exam content information prior to writing the exam.
