How/Why I Become a Teacher

I began my nursing career as a graduate from the Practical Nursing Program at Confederation College in 2004. I loved being an RPN, particularly when I worked with students. My experiences as an RPN included complex continuing chronic care, long-term care, surgical services, family medicine, and pediatrics.

In 2004, I graduated with my BScN from Athabasca University. I immediately began working in the critical care unit at TBRHSC and shortly thereafter, began concurrently working as a clinical instructor in the Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker Programs. Very quickly, teaching became my passion.

I began teaching full-time in the Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker programs at Confederation College and felt so honoured to come back to my roots and share my knowledge with the next generation of nurses.

I completed my Master of Nursing with a teaching specialty from Athabasca University in 2021 with hopes of attending a PhD program specializing in Distance Education in the future.
