I am a passionate nurse educator and leader in advancing evidence-based practice within nursing education. Currently, I am actively pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, furthering my commitment to enhancing nursing practice through education and quality improvement initiatives. As the co-lead of the RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) project, I am spearheading efforts to integrate evidence-based practice into the Practical Nursing curriculum, equipping the next generation of nurses with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality care.
How/Why I Became a Teacher
I began my nursing career as a graduate of the Practical Nursing Program at Confederation College in 2004. I loved being an RPN, particularly when I worked with students. My experiences as an RPN spanned complex continuing chronic care, long-term care, surgical services, family medicine, pediatrics, and critical care.
In 2014, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from Athabasca University. Shortly after, I began working in the critical care unit at TBRHSC while concurrently serving as a clinical instructor in the Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker Programs. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for teaching.
I transitioned to a full-time teaching role in the Practical Nursing at Confederation College, feeling honoured to return to my roots and share my knowledge with the next generation of nurses.
In 2021, I completed my Master of Nursing (MN) with a teaching specialty from Athabasca University, driven to inspire and educate future nurses. Looking ahead, I will use my DNP degree to remain dedicated to advancing evidence-based practice in healthcare, recognizing its critical role in improving patient outcomes and ensuring safe, effective care delivery.
