My insight, or words of advice regarding this program
CYC requires self-reflection, self-awareness and the the willingness to challenge your own values and beliefs. This program was one of the best things I ever did for myself. You will be encouraged, challenged and supported by some of the most invested CYC's in this community. You will be enriched by professional, meaningful and therapeutic relationships with teachers, field-supervisors, children and youth.
My insight, or words of advice regarding career opportunities in this field of study
The best advice I was ever given and still holds true is ... be authentic. Vulnerable people require nothing less. You will make a difference. The career opportunities are endless ... Youth Criminal Justice, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Education, Addictions, Health Care, Family and Child Welfare, programs specific to Ingenious People, the list goes on.
How/Why I Become a Teacher
I have had the very best teachers, supervisors and mentors in my CYC education and career. I want to provide the same experience for students. Teaching keeps me current and relevant.
What I Like Most About Teaching
I really like bringing my experience in the field to provide opportunities for learning in the classroom. I provide a safe space for personal and professional development and encourage difficult conversations about multi-generational effects of colonization, racism, addiction, trauma and anti-oppression. I also learn so much from students.

My Relevant Experience in the Field

I have also worked in Northern Communities in times of crisis, trauma and sorrow. I have attended and presented in Provincial, National and World Child and Youth Care conferences. I have built professional relationships and life long friendships with CYC's from all over the Nation.
