Confederation College’s Culinary Management students are once again partnering with the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) to prepare nutritious meals for those in need. This year, the initiative has received a major boost, thanks to a $25,000 contribution from The Molson Foundation.

Building on the success of last year’s collaboration, the program provides students with valuable hands-on learning while making a direct impact on the community. Under the guidance of faculty, students prepare a variety of meals that are distributed through the RFDA’s network of food banks and community organizations.

“Confederation College is committed to fostering meaningful community partnerships that create real-world learning opportunities for our students,” said College President Michelle Salo. “Through this initiative, our Culinary Management students are honing their skills and making a difference by addressing food insecurity in our region.”

The Molson Foundation’s support ensures the program’s continued success, allowing for the purchase of high-quality ingredients and the expansion of meal production.

“The Molson Foundation is proud to support initiatives that strengthen communities and provide essential resources to those in need,” said Andrew Molson of The Molson Foundation. “By investing in programs like this, we are helping to ensure that students gain valuable experience while positively impacting food security in Northwestern Ontario.”

The RFDA plays a critical role in food distribution throughout the region and is thrilled to continue working with Confederation College.

“Our partnership with the college allows us to continue providing homemade, nutritious meals to local and regional feeding programs and food banks,” said Tanner Harris, Food Services Manager at the RFDA. “Thanks to funding from The Molson Foundation, we can supplement donated food with additional ingredients to meet community needs. This initiative also gives students valuable hands-on experience in bulk meal preparation while giving back to the community.”

The initiative will continue throughout the academic year, with students preparing meals at Confederation College’s culinary labs before the RFDA distributes them. With the continued support of The Molson Foundation, the program aims to grow and provide even more meals to those in need.
