THUNDER BAY, ON, June 14, 2022 - Confederation College Athletics was successful in their bid to host the 2022 Ontario Colleges Athletics Association’s (OCAA’s) Provincial Cross Country Running Championships at Lappe Ski Centre, October 29, 2022.
The Lappe Nordic Ski Centre is the perfect setting as it offers challenging courses through the boreal forest of northwestern Ontario.
This is the first time Thunder Bay will host this prestigious event, featuring 150+ collegiate runners from sixteen Ontario Colleges. The Men’s event will have the student-athletes running eight kilometres, with the Women’s competition running a six-kilometre race.
Spectators and fans are welcome to come out and cheer on our Thunderhawks student-athletes as they compete for the opportunity to represent Ontario at the CCAA National Championships. The top three men’s and women’s teams, and top 25 runners qualify for the CCAA (Canadian College Athletic Association) Championships in Medicine Hat, Alberta, November 11 – 12, 2022.
Thunderhawks’ Jamie Kovacic, accompanied by Coach, Paul Inkila, competed at the 2021 CCAA National Championships in Calgary, Alberta.
Following the OCAA Championships, the Lappe Nordic Ski Club will host the annual Sawdust Run. Community runners are welcome to participate using the same running courses as the OCAA event.
