Thursday, September 30th is The National Day For Truth & Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day). The day honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is avital component of the reconciliation process.
How Can I Participate?
Wear ORANGE to raise awareness of the legacy of residential schools,and to honour the thousands of Survivors and participate in one of the events below:
On Monday September 27th, tune in to the SUCCI Spotlight as we chat with Tiffany Miller, Indigenous Library Liaison about the National Day For Truth & Reconciliation, the importance of orange shirts, and events on campus and in the community. Live at facebook.com/succiofficial.
On Thursday September 30th:
Join President Kathleen Lynch at 9:30am in our Outdoor Classroom as we plant a treeon our campus to symbolize our committment to the process ofReconciliation.
Join Elder Sarah Yellowhead & artist Caitlyn Bird for Orange Shirt Beading from 11am - 1pm. This is a free activity and will be available virtually and in-person. A Zoom link & information about where & when to pick up kits (for remote attendees) will be sent out prior to the event. Register at https://arthive-beading-with-sarah.eventbrite.ca
SUCCI & The Paterson Library present a screening of the film INDIAN HORSE in the Shuniah Student Lounge at 12:30pm. This drama sheds light on the history of Residential Schools and the indomitable spirit of indigenous people. Everyone welcome, free tea and bannock.
OASA, will be providing bus transportation for any student wishing to attend the PowWow on Anemki Wajiw at Fort William First Nation.
