The campus has been busy with additional student activity over the last few months from September, October and into November. The Fort Frances High School (FFHS) approached our campus to request the use of classroom space for their high school students enrolled in the SP100 Wildland Firefighter Training Course offered by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). The SP100 course is an introduction to the basics of fighting forest fires. The MNRF and the FFHS have an ongoing partnership which has provided the high school students with experiential learning opportunities, a chance to work with trainers who are already working in the field, and opportunities to learn about the diverse career paths tied to the work of those employed by the MNRF. Additionally, students are able to earn their two-year National certification and have the opportunity to complete additional work to earn a Careers and Guidance credit through the high school. This is the third course that has been offered to the students of Fort Frances High School since 2019. We hope to have them back again next year!
