Wiper Malware

CanSSOC (Canadian Shared Security Operations Centre) has issued an alert to higher education for general awareness of wiper malware issues. Critical banking, aviation and IT organizations in Ukraine have been affected. There is concern of spillover attacks to others who support Ukraine, especially in a vocal or public manner. eg. anyone joining the Ukranian "IT army", or faculty teaching or commenting publicly on the situation.
Wiper malware wipes files on an affected computer, and has the nasty effect of making it unusable without a reinstallation and restoration of applications and data. This is a good time to review your personal practice in storing data. Use the College's network drives to store important data files (J:, P: drives), or make sure you are backing up your personal computer. Otherwise, you are at serious risk of losing all information on your personal computer.
