Preparing the College Community for Emergencies
Preparing the College Community for Emergencies.
The new emergency response protocols, “Shelter in Place”, “Hold and Secure”, and “Lockdown” may not be familiar to many staff, students, contractors, patrons, clients and members of the public.
It is important to prepare everyone for emergency response protocols. Your role as a faculty member, or Program Coordinator; as a Dean or Director; or as a manager or supervisor includes the provision of on-going orientation and training to all members of the College community:
- review the use of the Emergency Communications System,
- review the use of Help! Phones and Classroom Help! Phones,
- review the emergency response protocols and when they will be used,
- review the concept of “Out of Sight. Out of Mind. Out of Harm’s Way”,
- review how and where to shelter in classrooms, offices and public places on campus,
- review how to barricade a door,
- attend College-wide training sessions,
- participate in drills,
- refer to current information at the Public Safety website: www.confederationcollege.ca/publicsafety/procedures
