Overview

The Pre-Apprenticeship Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Program at Confederation College is a 20-week training initiative aimed at preparing individuals for apprenticeship opportunities. The program is designed specifically for women in trades and consists of three main components:

  1. Trades Readiness (4 weeks): This phase includes academic preparation in mathematics, safety training, employability skills, and career exploration.

  2. Level 1 In-School Apprenticeship Training (8 weeks plus 2 weeks): This component provides foundational skills and knowledge essential for a career in skilled trades. It includes training in safety, materials, tools, plans, specifications, codes, residential estimating, calculation, layout, and metal cutting and welding. A 2-week exposure to welding is also part of this phase.

  3. Employability Training (8 weeks): This phase involves job placement to give students real-world experience.

The program runs from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and provides students with all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). Upon successful completion, participants receive a Confederation College “Recognition of Achievement” credential.
