Confederation College, in partnership with the Student Union of Confederation College Inc. (SUCCI), hosted the Thunderhawks Orientation Kickoff event on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the 2024 school year. The annual event was held outside the Wellness Centre – Minowaadiziiwin, at the Thunder Bay campus. One of this year's highlights was the inaugural class of the College's new Pharmacy Technician program, which has a full intake of students, showcasing the growing demand and interest in the career field.
The Orientation Kickoff is a celebration to welcome nearly 3500 new and returning students to the College, including more than 1300 international students. The event featured a barbecue hosted by SUCCI, games, karaoke, and an info fair to help students connect with peers, faculty, and staff.
“I am excited to welcome students to our numerous communities,” said Michelle Salo, Confederation College's new President. As a graduate of the College myself, it is inspiring to have the opportunity to embark on this journey with them.”
Robin Gathercole, President of SUCCI, emphasized the importance of the orientation events. “Participating in orientation activities is a fun way for students to get familiar with the college, the programs, and the available services. The student association encourages students to fully engage in the activities and events planned throughout the month, enhancing their college experience and setting them up for success.”
Alongside the kickoff barbecue, program orientation celebrates and enhances the students’ first days of college, equipping them with the tools they need for a successful year. They’ll meet their program coordinator, faculty and classmates, gain insights into what it takes to excel in their program and get acquainted with the college's support services and campus opportunities.
Classes for most of the College's 65+ full-time programs commence on Wednesday.
